In his keynote address at the 13th Oppenheimer Research Conference (ORC) on Tuesday, 9 October 2024, in Midrand, South Africa, His Excellency Hailemariam Dessalegn, the former Prime Minister of Ethiopia and current Board Chair of Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA), called for unified and urgent actions to tackle the existing threats posed by climate change.
“Today, we are gathered at a critical juncture in human history. The clock is ticking, and the consequences of our actions-or inaction-are more evident than ever,” His Excellency indicated, emphasizing the need for immediate measures to avoid catastrophic consequences and secure a sustainable future for generations to come.
Themed ‘Recycle like there’s no tomorrow’, the conference, concluding on Friday, 11 October, has attracted more than 150 participants from around the world to discuss various cross cutting topics, such as biodiversity loss, critically endangered species, landscape ecology, climate change and wildlife economies.
Representing Hailemariam & Roman Foundation, Chief of Climate Smart Conservation and Ecotourism Program, Dr. Alemayehu Assefa, is also in attendance.
