Project Overview
The Agricultural Transformation, Food & Nutrition Security project aims to enhance agricultural productivity and value chain systems in the pastoral and agro-pastoral communities of Ethiopia, contributing to improved gender-inclusive household incomes and food and nutrition security.
The South Omo Zone is home to extensive agro-pastoral and pastoral communities that collectively own a significant share of the country’s livestock, including:
- Cattle: Approximately 1.94 million
- Sheep: Approximately 3.2 million
- Goats: Approximately 5.8 million (South Omo Zone Statistical Abstract, 2021/22)
Despite its immense potential for socio-economic transformation, the zone remains one of the most neglected areas in the country.
Project Goal
To transform agricultural productivity and value chain systems for increased incomes and improved food and nutrition security among pastoral and agro-pastoral communities in South Omo Zone, with a focus on gender equity.
