The eagerly awaited African Fertilizer and Soil Health (AFSH) Summit 2024 officially beings in Nairobi, Kenya, today, May 7, 2024, and will conclude on Thursday, May 9, 2024.
The three-day event has brought together the African Heads of State and Government, Minsters, high-ranking government officials, senior policy makers, scientists, private–sector players and civil society organizations, among others.
The Former Prime Minster of Ethiopia, H.E. Mr. Hailemariam Dessalegn and the Former First Lady of Ethiopia, H.E. Mrs. Roman Tesfaye are also in attendance. His Excellency Mr. Hailemariam is expected to deliver welcoming remarks at the Presidential Summit on Thursday, May 9, 2024.
Structured under a common theme, ‘Listen to the Land’, the Summit is set to evaluate the state of Africa’s soil health, while reviewing the progress made since the 2006 Abuja Declaration, which aimed to boost fertilizer use for agricultural growth.
A 10-year Action Plan is also expected to be endorsed by public and private sector partners, offering concrete recommendations for African leaders and stakeholders. The Action Plan will guide policies and investments to enhance soil health, boost fertilizer effectiveness, and increase yields and profitability for farmers.
