The Hailemariam & Roman Foundation (HRF) has donated five motorcycles to enhance maternal & child health services in Hamer and Bena Tsemay Woredas as well as Turmi Town Administration, South Omo Zone.

The donation was made following the High-Level Advocacy Conferences on Transforming Maternal and Child Health Programs held on March 2024, where lack of transport in delivering health service to hard-to-reach pastoral areas was boldly raised. During the then conference H.E. Roman Tesfaye, the Former First Lady of Ethiopia and CEO of HRF, pledged on behalf of the HRF to contribute to this cause.

On May 14, 2024, the motorcycles were officially handed over at Jinka Town, in the presence of HRF delegates, the South Omo Zone Health Department Head, and other relevant stakeholders.

Mr. Tamrat Assefa, South Omo Zone Health Department Head, emphasized the crucial support HRF provides to the zone, both technically and financially. He noted that H.E. Roman Tesfaye kept her promise by delivering the motorcycles within two months of the conference. He highlighted the importance of these motorcycles in reaching remote areas, supporting health posts, and improving skilled delivery and maternal and child health outcomes.

Mr. Meskele Lera, Chief of Programs for HRF’s Maternal, Neonatal, and Health Programs disclosed that the motorcycles were purchased for a total of 725,000 ETB. The Allocation includes two motorcycles for Hamer Woreda, two for Bena Tsemay Woreda and one for Turmi Town Administration. This donation aims to enhance access to healthcare services and improve maternal and child health outcomes in these pastoral areas.
