The Hailemariam & Roman Foundation (HRF), in collaboration with Makobu Enterprises PLC and the South Omo Zone Administration, organized a Farmers Field Day in Goldiya Kebele, BenaTsemay Woreda, South Omo Zone, on June 29, 2025 to celebrate the ongoing implementation of Conservation Agriculture (CA) on 44 farmers’ plots in the Hamer and Bena Tsemay woredas as a pilot project.
More than 300 participants, including delegates from HRF and Makobu, and high-level officials from the South Ethiopia Regional State, along with zonal, woreda, and kebele representatives, agro-pastorals, extension workers, researchers, and agricultural professionals attended the event. The gathering featured field visits to CA implementation sites, where attendees discussed the benefits of CA and strategies to enhance agricultural production in the zone and beyond.
Building on this momentum, HRF, in partnership with Makobu and South Omo Zone, plans to expand the conservation agriculture efforts, focusing on improving soil fertility, enhancing moisture retention, reducing erosion, and boosting crop productivity across the pastoral & agro-pastoral communities.
