The Hailemariam & Roman Foundation (HRF) and Nyangatom Woreda officials met today, 27 July 2026 in Kangaten Town, South Omo Zone, to initiate the designation of the Nyangatom Community Conservation Area (NCCA).
The discussion focused on advancing community-based conservation to protect the area’s rich biodiversity while creating environmental, social, and economic benefits for local communities.
The Woreda leadership committed to conducting community consultations to secure local consent, while HRF reaffirmed its commitment to providing technical and institutional support throughout the designation process in collaboration with the Regional Tourism Bureau.
South Omo Zone Cabinet members and the Zonal Heads of Tourism and Investment also expressed their support for the proposed conservation initiative.
