H.E. Hailemariam Dessalegn, former Prime Minister of Ethiopia and current Board Chair of the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA), today, September 11, 2025, welcomed Hon. John Munyes Kiyonga, EGH, Special Envoy for Peace in the Ateker Region, at his office in Addis Ababa.
The purpose of the visit was to formally introduce the Special Envoy, convey the goodwill and intentions of H.E. Dr. William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya, and explore avenues for collaboration in pursuit of shared objectives for peace and regional integration.
Hon. Munyes Kiyonga was appointed by President Ruto as the Special Envoy for Peace in the Ateker Region, which encompasses the Ateker-speaking communities spread across Ethiopia, South Sudan, Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.
The delegation accompanying the Special Envoy also included Hon. Ekwom Nabuin, Member of Parliament for Turkana North Constituency in the Kenya National Assembly.
The meeting underscored the importance of cross-border collaboration and community-led approaches to advance peace, stability, and sustainable development across the Ateker region.
